the worst time to start something

It's November 1st as I write this, which means that Halloween is over and my favourite season is around the corner! I know what you're thinking, and you're wrong. It's not actually Christmas πŸŽ„πŸŽ… (though I'm looking forward to that too).

It's almost New Year's Resolution season!!! 😁

Yes, I'm a nerd re transformation. And I have been for years (esp. w.r.t. NY resolutions).

When we make a new year's resolution, we're invariably doing it because we WANT something.

Let's say we make a resolution to go to the gym 3 times a week. Or to start a blog. We want to work out, not because we like being at the gym, but because we want to be stronger and healthier. We want to write, not because we actually like writing, but because we want to have written and communicate our ideas to people. You get the point.

News flash: πŸ“° ⚑⚑ There's nothing special about January 1st.

If you want to be healthier, fitter, stronger, smarter, more likeable, a better guitar player, etc., then you want it. You can either fit it into your life, or you cannot. If you cannot, let it go without guilt. And if you can, then honour your desires. Now. So why wait to start?

The worst time to start something is "later." The second worst time to start something is "tomorrow."

The best time to start something is "now."

Don't waste the momentum you have now by waiting for the perfect time to start. That time doesn't exist.

Our society compounds this problem by wagging fingers at those foolish enough to start something before they were ready. That's bullshit. I've never really been ready until after I've done it. Anything I've accomplished, it's because I started it. You're more likely to start if you start now rather than putting it off.

I didn't start it when it was perfect, but whenever I could.

So maybe figure out what one of your new year's resolutions is going to be, figure out the smallest possible step you could take towards that, and take it today.

Until next time, dream big and live bigger.

Much love,

Paul
