when productivity isn't progress
It’s been a little while since I last posted. That wasn’t the plan — but I’ve promised myself (and you) that I won’t post unless I have something worth sharing. No fluff, no filler.
Lately, though, it's been hard to create something that wasn't filler.
What I've realized is that I've been in execution mode. You know it — task lists, calls, emails. I’ve been checking things off and making progress, including two new CPDs: one for junior and mid-level lawyers on how law firms actually make money, and one for lawyer dads on sharpening focus when life gets loud.
But I haven’t been in reflection mode. And that’s the mode where I create (those CPDs don't count — for me, that's curation, not creation). Where I slow down, zoom out, and reconnect the dots.
Creation gives me momentum.
I created the Happy Lawyer Project (and book!) and the Successful Junior Lawyer Project (and Foundation Workshop Series!). 🙌 Those gave me momentum. When I’m not creating, I can feel the difference. My work gets done, but it doesn’t always move the needle.
It’s a trap I see a lot of smart, driven professionals fall into: we get so deep into the busyness of our business that we forget to create the value that will drive our results.
So here’s what I’ve been asking myself — and maybe it’s worth asking yourself too:
What mode are you in?
And is it serving the value you want to create?
You’ve got this.
