the difference between poring and agonizing over details
I spoke recently with a client who was judging themselves for something outside of their control. π Whether it's unrealistic deadlines, extra-demanding colleagues/clients, or toxic circumstances, it can have us feeling that we're not enough. We could have stopped, or avoided, or endured it.
βBut "could" and "should" are not always interchangeable. Should we have? In hindsight, maybe. But we don't live our lives in hindsight (good luck trying to drive using only the rear view mirror).
βWe really CAN'T be perfect in life. So why do we expect ourselves to be?
βWell, it's because that's the best way we know to stay safe. π
βSo when you notice yourself leaning into your perfectionism and AGONIZING over every detail and you're almost afraid to move forward, it's probably time to look at your insecurities. π
βOn the other hand, when you find yourself PORING over every detail because the craft matters to you, that's often a sign you're on the right path! π΅οΈ
βAs happens so often in life, actions that look the same on the outside (poring/agonizing over the details) feel completely different on the inside.
βAnd that different impact makes ALL the difference.
βThe first step? self-awareness. What's going on and why? The second step? Take a step in the direction you want to go.
βC'est tout. You got this. ππ§‘
