The Overthinker's Curse
You ever get stuck in the spin cycle? Overthinking an issue well past the point of usefulness—without ever actually taking action?
That’s the overthinker’s curse.
We forget that deferring a choice—or worse, refusing to make one—is still a choice. And every choice has consequences.
Which ones do we defer most? Often, the ones that make us feel something: fear, anxiety, exposure.
And how do we try to handle those issues? By thinking our way through them.
Wait.🤔
See the trap?
We’re trying to solve a feeling problem with thinking.
Sometimes it works. But often, it’s like trying to quench thirst by eating cucumbers. Sure, you’ll get a little hydration—but a glass of water would be better.
This was me at the start of Leader Rising. I’d agonize over blog posts for weeks, tweaking and tinkering. Then I’d finally hit “publish”… and feel crushed when they didn’t go viral or land a client.
I was chasing home runs.
Tinkering isn’t bad. Mastery matters. But ask yourself: are you refining because it sharpens your craft—or because you’re avoiding the discomfort of being seen?
If it’s comfort you’re chasing, name it. No shame. But if it’s progress you’re after, shipping your work—imperfectly—is often the better bet.
I’ve come to realize: there are no home runs. Just bunts.
The good news? If you keep bunting, you can still make it around the bases.
👉 Feel the fear.
And bunt anyway.
And remember — we're cheering you on.
