Building Sleep Habits

"What's wrong with you?" she asked. "Why are you so anal about sleep?" πŸ˜‘

We were dating. I think she was annoyed that I was trying to push bedtime.

πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

But it was more than that. I could tell her every day (and had told her most days) exactly how much sleep I'd had the night before. I tracked it. Paid attention to it. Paid attention to how I felt and what I was capable of in relation to how much sleep I'd got.

"Because," I said after a moment. "Because to the extent I'm me and I'm at all special, it's thanks to sleep."

"To the extent that I like and that I'm proud of who I am, it's thanks to sleep."

I'm pretty serious about my sleep.

So when a buddy mentioned to me that he's been keeping a habit tracker and one of his habits is going to bed early - I had to ask:

"How many times have you put an X for that habit?"

"Zero" he said sheepishly. πŸ‘πŸ‘

I knew that I wanted to explore it on this episode of the podcast. In the shadow of last week's episode where we talk about getting rid of habits, this one is a focus on building new habits.
